Citrine

CITRINE (South Africa)

Citrine’s name is derived from the French word citron, meaning lemon.  It is a yellow/brown variety of quartz, with impurities of colloidal iron giving its color.  Natural Citrine is rare & is a smoky dark yellow to light yellow.  Most Citrine in cluster form on the market today is heat treated Amethyst.  When heated to temperatures above 500ºC, most Amethyst will turn a dark orange/red/brown color, and is then sold as citrine.
