LORE & HISTORY

Aquamarine is derived from the Latin word aqua marina meaning water of the sea. It received this name because of its seawater color. This stone is often a pale blue to blue-green variety of Beryl and is the most common color used in gem-quality pieces of jewelry.

Some of the largest pieces of Aquamarine come from mines located in Brazil. Unique pieces, like the Marta Rocha, weighing in at close to 40kg have produced over 55 carats of cut stones. There are also other pieces that are widely known for their size, color, and quality; the Urubu and the Jacueto are very large specimens weighing 33kg and 19kg, respectively.

Aquamarine is considered the March birthstone but this was not adopted as the norm until the American National Association of Jewelers chose it in 1912. Beryl, and by extension Aquamarine, also serves as a birthstone for Scorpio. Aquamarine is the traditional gem to give on the 16th and 19th wedding anniversaries.

HOW TO USE AQUAMARINE

It has been said that the mineral Beryl gives the wearer protection against foes, both in battle and in litigation. These stones produce an unconquerable and amiable attitude and also quicken the intellect.

Aquamarine’s high vibrations can lead us to develop our individual spiritual paths. This gemstone pairs well with other gems, and we highly recommend meditating with other heart chakra stones. Using other such stones in tandem with Aquamarine amplifies the user’s openness, further cleanses and clears emotions, and accelerates heart healing.

On the Body: Wear as jewelry or carry on your person to help keep emotional balance in high-stress situations. This crystal also offers protection when traveling at sea or spending time near water.

Inside: Keep Aquamarine near where you sleep to assist in dream work and astral projection. Keep it in your office to enhance mental clarity.

Outside: Because Aquamarine possesses a Mohs hardness scale value of 7.5 – 8, it can handle most of the outdoor elements and may be kept near entryways to provide protection for your home. However, this stone can lose its color if not kept in the shade so watch out for exposing it to direct sunlight.

CLEANING AND CLEANSING AQUAMARINE

Physical Cleaning: Clean Aquamarine with canned air to remove dust and debris.

Energetic Cleansing: There are numerous ways to energetically cleanse Aquamarine.
