LORE & HISTORY

Moldavite is alluded to in biblical lore regarding the fallen angel Lucifer. When Lucifer fell from heaven, Archangel Michael swung his sword at Lucifer’s crown, knocking an embedded Emerald out. This Emerald symbolized the fall of humanity and also the key to humanity’s redemption. In fact, some legends indicate that this Emerald was the holy grail itself. Supposedly it went on to be fashioned into a cup by another angel to serve as the cup used in the Last Supper. Other legends purport that the grail was later re-discovered and given to Napoleon, who was extremely disappointed to find that it was just a chunk of green glass akin to what we now know as Moldavite.

In Buddhism, the Cintamani is a legendary stone said to grant wishes. It was said to have fallen from the sky in a chest that originated from the constellation Orion, linking Moldavite and other tektites to this legend. The stone was so powerful that it was sent away to Shambhala, to Sanat Kumara (Lord of the Earth).

There are many connections further linking Moldavite to Lucifer, Sanat Kumara, Christ, and Melek Taus (The Peacock Angel). In particular, Sanat is said to assist mankind in its spiritual evolution and development until we reach a state of ascended enlightenment. This mission closely aligns with Moldavite’s metaphysical abilities.

In European lore, one of the earliest temples of Ephesus housed the Diopet, a sacred stone that had “fallen from Jupiter.” Based on records, this mythical stone strongly resembled a Besednice formation Moldavite. It was later placed within the tower-like crown of the statue of Artemis/Diana, who came to Earth to teach mankind witchcraft.

The famous Venus of Willendorf figure was discovered in a digging site that contained a number of Moldavite amulets.

HOW TO USE MOLDAVITE

Moldavite, in addition to facilitating drastic awakenings, can also help ease financial anxiety, deepen meditative states, and enhance integrity. On the Body: Place on the crown, third eye, or heart chakras during meditation, or simply hold in the receiving or non-dominant hand.

GEOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

14.7 million years ago, a giant meteorite smashed into Earth in the region now known as the Czech Republic. This meteorite, weighing in at an estimated 6 trillion megatons, made landfall in the Nördlinger Ries crater. The main body of the meteorite is believed to have penetrated the earth’s crust to reach the liquid iron at the planet’s core. The impact was powerful enough to disturb the iron currents, causing the reversal of the Earth’s magnetic poles.

Moldavite formed as a result of superheating the combined earth and meteorite materials from the impact, which were flung into the upper atmosphere before plummeting back down to earth. It’s evident that this material cooled in the upper atmosphere because the gases trapped inside have a lower pressure.

Most Moldavites fell in Bohemia. To this day, Moldavites have been found in areas including southern Bohemia, western Moravia (including Besednice, Locenice, Slavce, and Chlum), the Cheb Basin (northwest Bohemia), Lusatia (Germany), and Waldviertel (Austria). Besednice displays museum-quality Moldavite, while Chlum has the next highest quality.

Due to this stone’s rarity, many fakes can be found on the market. To identify authentic Moldavite, you must examine it closely for bubbles, inclusions, formation, coloration, texture, and lechatelierite (a particular mineral formation associated with meteor impacts). Most certificates stating a piece’s authenticity are in fact fake. Because of this, buyers must always carefully check for visual indicators rather than relying solely on documentation or verbal assurances.
