DANBURITE

Named for Danbury, CT, where it was first discovered in 1839. It is slightly harder than quartz, with a Mohs scale of 7.5 hardness. It is a calcium boron silicate mineral with a form close to that of topaz, & is usually clear like quartz, but sometimes comes in pale yellow, pink or brown. The clarity, resilience, and strong dispersion of danburite make it valuable as cut stones for jewelry.
