DENDRITIC AGATE

One of the rarer agate varieties, dendritic agate isn’t actually an agate, as it’s missing the telltale white banding. It is, however, a member of the chalcedony family, of which agate is also a member. Chalcedony is cryptocrystalline quartz, grown in a solution of silicon dioxide with a crystal structure too small to see with the naked eye. Dendritic Agate is easily identified by its black or brown fern or tree-like formations that run through the yellowish white, green to gray stone. Though they appear organic, the dendrites are actually inclusions of iron and manganese that seeped in from the surrounding rock during formation, permeating the crystal structures. Occasionally these inclusions will cluster in spots, rather than branching out & are called “Mosquito Stones”. Historically, ancient Greek farmers would bury these stones around their fields to make the woodland spirits happy and ensure plentiful crops. The more transparent the stone, the higher its value, as clear dendritic agate is extremely rare.

Associated chakra depends on which color dominates the stone; white-crown, green-heart, yellow-solar plexus, gray-root, zodiac sign of Gemini & vibrates to the number 3.
