Beryl is scientifically classified as a Beryllium Aluminum Silicate. Presence of differing elements will account for the color it displays. The presence of Iron and Uranium produces the greenish-yellow color of the Heliodor variety. Its chemical symbol is (Be3Al2Si6O18) Heliodor is the yellow variety of the Beryl family, generally referring to the greenish-yellow crystal, but includes all yellow, yellow-green, light green and brown Beryl.Golden Beryl is a variety of Heliodor with a bright, pure yellow to golden yellow color. The golden yellow color is attributed to Fe3 ions. Heliodor is the stone of the Sun. The Greeks believed that Heliodor contained the power and warmth of the sun and that it was responsible for the alternation of day and night. This strong belief is reflected in the name itself, for the Greek meaning of heliodor is “gift of the sun”.
