A silicate mineral and component of mineral calamine, together with Smithsonite. It is mined from the upper parts of zinc and lead ore deposits. Hemimorphite was named in 1853 for its unusual crystal development. Hemimorph development means that the crystals are terminated by dissimilar faces. It is most commonly found as crystalline crusts and layers on host rock, but is also found in massive & granular form, rounded and reniform aggregates, fine needles, fibrous or stalactitic, fan shaped or botryoidal clusters. It can be found in bright b lue, light blue, green, white, yellow, brown, gray and colorless.
