Discovered in Sweden in 1800, it’s name comes from the Greek for leaf, due to it’s perfect cleavage. It was used in the making of CorningWare and ceramic glazes. It is an important ore of lithium, especially for the glass production industry. It is a monoclinic system of lithium aluminum phyllosilicate mineral. Found in pink, grey & yellow grey tabular crystals & columnar masses, with the colorless variety commonly used as gemstones.
