QUARTZ CRYSTAL SCRYING SPHERE

Scrying is the term for gazing into a suitable medium in the hope of detecting subtle messages or visions. Historically known for “fortune telling”, scrying may be used for personal guidance, prophecy, revelation, inspiration, channeling, speaking to the dead, invoking spirits, light and dark magick, augury and oneiromancy. Scrying is mentioned in chapter 44 of Genesis, and has been known for all of history as we know it. The scrying sphere is also known as the crystal ball or the orbuculum. More recently the crystal orb has been used as a photography prop, called a lensball. They were famously used in the movie The Labyrinth by David Bowie’s character Jareth to “mezmerize” Sarah. Scrying spheres must be covered with a dark cloth when not in use. The optical properties of the bi-convex lens, will magnify the sun’s power, and may burn a hand holding the sphere, or igniting fabric that is in close proximity to it. This is known as the “burning sun effect”.
