SPESSARTINE GARNET

This Garnet is a manganese aluminum silicate mineral. Its name is derived from Spessart, Bavaria. Orange/yellow varieties are found in Madagascar, while violet/reds are found in Colorado & Maine. There is a blue/violet color changing variety sometimes called Pyrope-Spessartine Garnet that was discovered in the 1990’s in Madagascar. It changes color depending on the temperature of light it is viewed under, due to relatively high amounts of Vanadium. It resembles Alexandrite & is the rarest form of Garnet in the world.
