STILBITE

A common member of the zeolite group of minerals, it is a hydrous calcium sodium aluminum silicate. It’s name comes from the Greek stilbein which means “to glitter”, in reference to the luster of Stilbite which is pearly on cleavage surfaces. It comes in white, beige, peach, pink, orange, light yellow, brown and less commonly in gray, red or green. Single individual crystals are uncommon. Usually Stilbite is found in platy aggregates or fan shaped “wheat sheaf” bundles or bow tie formations. Crystals are often double terminated and aggregates may be twinned in interesting bisecting habits. Peach stilbite is often found with apophyllite.
