MUSCOVITE MICA
COMMON MICA /POTASH MICA

Micas are a group of 37 phyllosilicate minerals that all crystallize in the monoclinic system and a tendency towards pseudohexagonal crystals. They are translucent to opaque with a vitreous or pearly luster and come in many different colors with a flaky or platy appearance. Mica is known for its thin elastic plate appearance, known as perfect basal cleavage. Mica is common in igneous and metamorphic rock, and particularly prominent in granites, pegmatites and shists. Large crystals of Mica are called Books, and some have been found to be several feet across in some pegmatites. Micas are used in many different industries such as the cosmetics industry, which uses ground micas to add shimmer to products. Other products include drywall, paints, fillers, automobile parts, roofing, shingles and electronics. Muscovite Sheet Mica has a variety of technical applications from window panes, to insulator sheets, optical filters, navigational tools, thermo regulators and windows to furnaces and ovens. Types of micas include Lepidolite, Muscovite, Paragonite, Margarite, Biotite, Phlogopite, Zinnwaldite, Clintonite, Illite, Phengite & Sericite. Micas have been known to humans since ancient times, and have been found in the earliest of cave paintings.
