PREHNITE WITH EPIDOTE

Prennite is an inosilicate of calcium & aluminum that crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system. It most often forms as stalactitic or botryoidal aggregates with only just the crests of small crystals showing curved faces. It’s color varies from light green to yellow most commonly, but also can be colorless, blue, pink, orange or white. It is associated with zeolite minerals such as datolite, calcite, apophyllite, stilbite etc in veins and cavities of basaltic rocks. Epidote is commonly found in metamorphosed rocks, it is associated with amphiboles, feldspars, quartz & chlorites and frequently found in veins that cut granite. It occurs as monoclinic crystals and also in massive form.Prehnite with Epidote can be found as botryoidal (rounded, bubbly) Prehnite spheres intergrown with equal sized Epidote clusters, or the Epidote can be more needle-like and found as inclusions within larger, massive form (boulder sized) Prehnite. The latter variety is commonly carved into towers, spheres etc.
