LORE & HISTORY
Aventurine’s name derives from the Italian a ventura, a phrase meaning by chance. This refers to incidents during the 18th century in which copper was accidentally dropped into molten glass to form what we now refer to as Goldstone. The name Aventurine would later come to be associated with this common Quartz family stone instead of its original man-made glass containing copper.
HOW TO USE AVENTURINE
On the Body: Wear Aventurine to block electromagnetic smog from appliances like computers, televisions, and mobile phones.
Inside: Place this stone in the north corner of a room to stimulate financial abundance or in the west for good fortune in relationships.
Outside: As a relatively hard mineral, Aventurine can withstand the elements. Place by entryways to nullify negative energies and draw luck into your home.
CLEANING AND CLEANSING
Physical Cleaning: Clean Aventurine with canned air to remove dust and debris.
Energetic Cleansing: There are numerous ways to energetically cleanse Aventurine.
- Set on or next to Selenite or Satin Spar, or set in lavender.
- Use smoke from herb bundles or incense.
- Charge under the full moonlight.
TOXICITY AND POTENTIAL ALLERGENS
As a member of the Quartz family, Aventurine may contain impurities and inclusions that could alter the color of the crystals and create a toxic element. These include Copper, Dumortierite, Fuchsite, Goethite, Hematite, Ilmenite, Lepidolite, Mica, and Muscovite.
Copper – “Poisonous.” (Jentoft)
“Toxic or harmful stone. Contains copper.” (Harton)
“Do not use…for internal use. Poisonous.” (Sullivan)
“Pure copper found in nature sometimes contains small amounts of iron, silver, bismuth, tin, lead, or antimony.” (Cayce 16)
“It must not come into contact with water, which is why one should never drink copper water.” (Peschek-Böhmer 127)
“Poisonous.” (Hibiscus)
“Poisonous.” (Healing Crystals)
Dumortierite – “Contains aluminum.” (Hibiscus)
“Contains aluminum.” (Healing Crystals)
Fuchsite – “Due to the flakiness of this mineral, it is recommended that an elixir is not prepared by the normal method.” (Love is in the Earth – Updated 286)
Hematite – “Will rust.” (Jentoft)
“Do not use…for internal use. Not suitable, as it will rust in water.” (Sullivan)
“Never discharge in water.” (Peschek-Böhmer 163)
“Unfit for elixir use – will rust with prolonged exposure in liquid.” (Healing Crystals)
Mica – “Due to the flakiness of this mineral, it is recommended that an elixir is not prepared by the normal method.”
Muscovite – “Due to the flakiness of this mineral, it is recommended that an elixir is not prepared by the normal method.”
Quartz – “Toxic or harmful stone. Toxic dust for inhalation…so if you must use Quartz for an elixir etc., be sure to clean off any quartz dust.” (Harton) *Note: We have not seen this particular claim repeated elsewhere in our research and thus cannot confirm it. However, it is always a good idea to rinse your stones (provided they are water-safe) before using them to prepare an elixir.
GEM ELIXIRS
Aventurine may contain various harmful inclusions which render it unsafe for use in gem elixirs made with the direct method. Only use the indirect method for creating a gem elixir with this stone.

GEOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Aventurine is a silicon dioxide with a hexagonal structure, characterized by plate-like inclusions of Mica. These inclusions give it a shimmering, metallic, optical reflectance that is known as aventurescence. It may also include Mica, Hematite, Goethite, or Chlorite.
Aventurine is a form of crystalline Quartz and typically occurs in green, blue, red, and orange. This mineral most commonly has colors ranging from light sea green to dark forest green due to chrome-bearing Fuchsite inclusions.
Be wary of extremely brightly-colored specimens as they may have been dyed. Aventurine ranges from translucent to nearly opaque; it may appear striated and always displays aventurescence.
